At first I was going to give this book four stars because it left me vaguely dissatisfied.Going back through it, I couldn't quite put my finger on the problem.
Perhaps it's that "online writer" is too vague. It covers people who blog for themselves, people who blog for others, Kindle novelists, people who write website articles, people who write emails for others and so on.
Not many people do all these things. Each demands its own skills, as well as focused time to master them.
And not all are equally lucrative, though it's true some people starve and some people get rich in them all.
And you need to learn to be a marketer, not just of your own writing services, but of your own products and other people's products.
If you're just getting started or wondering what an online writer writes, this is good book for you. And it's good on blogging. But once you've chosen your specialty, you'll need more in-depth info.

Sean Platt's "Writing Online" is giving my writing career the boost it needs for success. I am a freelance copywriter, and I have a growing online writing business. Almost daily I seek to learn more about my craft. I'm finding Sean's book relevant and timely. He provides the up-to-date information that I need right now. Constantly I'm using my 's highlighter tool as I read through his book -- I don't want miss anything! Above all, "Writing Online" is helping me "shape" my path as a writer. I'm starting to think about what I really want to do with my writing future, and Sean's book has given me a greater sense of direction for that. His book shows me how I can begin using my career today to help me attain my future writing goals.
The author has a real gift for writing helpful, well thought out material that covers enough so you learn something, but not too much so you feel overwhelmed about a subject.
No book could cover the entire topic of "online writing"...there's just too much to cover, but this book covers in enough depth that you'll get your fill for sure.
If you're considering online writing as a career choice...this needs to be the FIRST book you get on the subject. If you're an experienced writer, you'll still find nuggets you can use.

With all that he has covered in this book, by far, the most important lessons are that you have to work hard. There is no magic pill or wonder drug that is going to make you rich, only your fingers and Sean's past mistakes. Thanks, Sean for making those mistakes first and passing along your lessons.
